Quality Data Manager

SwainSmith’s Quality Data Manager™ (QDM) enables the standardization and enrichment of MRO data used to identify a wide variety of indirect materials, such as pipes, valves, seals, bearings, supplies and associated plant equipment.

Our taxonomy, the Noun-Modifier-Attribute (NMA) Dictionary, is the international standard for describing industrial MRO parts and supplies.

Our QDM and parts cleansing, standardization and enrichment services, form the foundation for a variety of comprehensive parts optimization solutions providing our customers with tangible and sustainable benefits.

QDM houses the SwainSmith Noun-Modifier-Attribute (NMA) Dictionary, the most widely used cataloging methodology in the world today.

The NMA Dictionary is used for managing vast inventories of maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) parts such as pipes, valves, bearings, associated plant equipment and general supply items.

Mastering Your MRO Catalog

The MRO parts information of many asset-intensive organizations is composed of unstructured “free-form” text, entered in a variety of ways, which results in item descriptions that are incomplete, inconsistent and non-comparable.

SwainSmith helps solve this “toxic” data problem through the NMA Dictionary. Once implemented, our customers begin realizing the benefits of structured, accurate and accessible MRO information.

Our NMA Dictionary has been developed over the past 20 years by industry and commodity domain experts in support of MRO professionals who procure, manage, supply and utilize millions of MRO items on a daily basis.

A Proven Methodology
for MRO Master Data Management

The NMA Dictionary is a two-tiered classification schema (with an optional third-tier “upper classification” level) that provides a consistent and repeatable set of rules to characterize and catalog inventory.

The NMA Dictionary consists of a family of mutually-exclusive Nouns/Class (a proper name such as “Valve”) and Modifiers/Sub-Class (a descriptive word or phrase such as “Gate”), as well as associated Characteristics that describe general part attributes (such as “Size,” “Pressure Rating” and “Connection”) and Values which describe specific Characteristics (such as “6-inch”).

Compatible with all EAM/CMMS and ERP systems.
