EAM/CMMS Codes are abbreviated data elements used to capture and roll up different types of EAM/CMMS information. The EAM/CMMS’s ability to produce useful data is critically dependent on Codes and their usage as part of EAM/CMMS maintenance and MRO supply chain transactions.

A great EAM/CMMS Code to develop are Equipment Failure Codes.

Equipment Failure Codes identify where the problem occurred on the asset. This code allows further analysis to be conducted on the part or component that is giving you the problem. These codes are specific to each asset class. Not part of a common lookup table. The Failure Code is considered a closing code. It is keyed to the work order by the maintenance technician as part of the work completion process.
